Evergreen Lavender Farm is a family owned business located in the rural community of Evergreen in Appomattox County, Virginia. In 2009, the farm began to transition from cut flower production to field grown lavender. The lavender harvested is used for our handmade lotions, soaps, and creams. We are open for seasonal pick your own on weekends from the end of May to the beginning of July.  We plan on adding scheduled workshops for lavender crafts for those who want to get in touch with their inner farm girl (or boy) by harvesting their own lavender and creating a wreath or a wand. The farm is a wonderful outdoor venue to celebrate your special occasion, but remember, we are a farm, not a country club! We have many plans and are hopeful that visitors will discover Evergreen Lavender Farm as a relaxing, beautiful, and educational experience.

About Us

Prior to moving to rural Appomattox County, Ken and Bonnie Swanson desired for their family to live in a community that would nurture family, faith, and farming. Hay, cattle, and crop farming were not going to work on 10 acres so an alternative was to grow perennial and annual cut flowers. It was a labor of love and an education in the importance of good soil, farm management, pests, flower cultivars, and adapting to Virginia’s unpredictable weather patterns. After a trip to the Willamette Valley in Oregon in 2008, Bonnie was inspired by the lavender farms in that area, however adaptations to Virginia’s climate needed to be researched, then the first 300 plants were planted in 2009. The house and outbuildings were built by the Young family in the 1930’s and the farm was originally a chicken farm. The main barn is now used for special events, instead of chickens, but the farm evokes a nostalgic feeling. Flower gardens, lavender fields, and mini-donkeys, goats, and chickens allow the Swansons and their guests a respite from frenetic lifestyles.
